Chesterfield's zoning short-term rental standards cap occupancy at eight adults per night and allow only one short-term rental per lot. The use must be operated by the property owner.
Under the Zoning Ordinance's short-term rental standards (section 19.2-32-40), a short-term rental may host no more than eight adults per night, and only one short-term rental is permitted on a lot. The rental must be operated by the property owner. These limits are in addition to the transient definition (each stay under 30 consecutive days). Because the modernized ordinance took effect January 1, 2026, confirm the current occupancy figure with the Planning Department before listing.
Exceeding the adult cap or operating more than one rental per lot is a zoning violation enforceable by Community Development.
