Minnehaha County, SD Short-Term Rentals: Parking Rules (2026)

The Minnehaha County Zoning Ordinance, administered by the county Planning & Zoning Department, sets off-street parking minimums by zoning district (typically 2 spaces per single-family dwelling in residential districts), but it does not impose an STR-specific add-on requirement (e.g., "+1 space per bedroom"). State-law backdrops apply: SDCL 32-30-12 declares a vehicle abandoned if left unattended on a public road, highway, or right-of-way for more than 24 hours without notice to the sheriff — a meaningful constraint for STR guests parking on rural county roads. SDCL 32-30-12.1 lets municipalities (not counties) modify this 24-hour rule, so the state default governs in unincorporated Minnehaha County.
