Minnehaha County has not adopted a numeric decibel ordinance, a fixed quiet-hours window, or STR-specific noise enforcement protocol for unincorporated areas. Instead, two state-law frameworks control: (1) SDCL 21-10-1 defines a civil nuisance as anything that "annoys, injures, or endangers the comfort, repose, health, or safety of others" — the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office and neighboring property owners can pursue abatement under SDCL 21-10-5 and damages under SDCL 21-10-6; (2) SDCL 22-18-35 criminalizes "unreasonable loud noise made with purpose to cause public danger or alarm" as a Class 2 misdemeanor (up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine under SDCL 22-6-2).
