There is no county STR registry. A host in unincorporated Spokane County registers with the Washington Department of Revenue for a business license and UBI, and reports transient-rental income on the state excise-tax return. Any zoning approval is handled separately by Building and Planning.
Because unincorporated Spokane County has no dedicated STR ordinance, 'registration' means state registration, not a county STR portal. Washington DOR requires anyone furnishing lodging for less than 30 days to open a tax account, obtain a Unified Business Identifier (UBI), and file the combined excise-tax return reporting retail sales tax, B&O tax under the retailing classification, and local lodging taxes. Airbnb/Vrbo may remit some taxes, but the host must still hold the account and file. Separately, a bed-and-breakfast home industry needs a Conditional Use Permit from Spokane County Building and Planning. Verify current fee figures directly with DOR and the county.
Failing to register and remit with the Department of Revenue exposes the operator to assessed back taxes, interest, and penalties under Title 82 RCW; unpermitted zoning use is enforced separately by the county.
