There is no county STR registry. Registration is municipal: many Montgomery County boroughs and townships require you to list a rental on a municipal rental-property registration and pass codes inspection. Requirements and fees are set by your local government, not the county.
Under the PA Municipalities Planning Code, registration of short-term rentals is a local matter. The state's 2025 study explains municipalities may require "listing on the municipal rental property registration" and that "codes inspections may be required, and compliance with electrical, sewer, and water capacity requirements verified." Montgomery County itself runs no residential rental registry; you register (if at all) with your borough or township, often through its Building & Planning or Codes department. Rental-license programs exist in municipalities such as Lower Merion Township, where owners of rental units must obtain a rental license from the Building & Planning Department.
Failure to register or license under a local ordinance is prosecuted by the municipality, generally as a summary offense with per-day fines and possible revocation of the rental license.
