Marana Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Obstruction Rules Rules (2026)

The Town of Marana prohibits obstructing public sidewalks, walkways, and pedestrian paths. Property owners are required to trim trees, shrubs, and other vegetation that overhangs or encroaches onto adjacent sidewalks to maintain a minimum vertical clearance of seven feet and full horizontal clearance of the sidewalk width. Failure to maintain vegetation clearance may result in a code enforcement notice and, if not corrected, town abatement at the property owner's expense. Parking vehicles on sidewalks is prohibited under both Marana Town Code and Arizona traffic law (ARS 28-873), which prohibits stopping, standing, or parking on a sidewalk. Construction activities that temporarily block sidewalks must provide an ADA-compliant alternate pedestrian route with appropriate signage and detour markings per MUTCD standards. Trash containers and recycling bins must not be left on sidewalks except during designated collection periods as specified by the waste hauler contract. The town enforces sidewalk obstruction rules through its Code Enforcement Division, which responds to resident complaints and conducts proactive patrols in commercial areas. All sidewalk obstructions are evaluated for ADA compliance, and violations that create accessibility barriers receive priority enforcement under the town's obligations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
