Clark County Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Sidewalk Repair Rules (2026)

Clark County Code Title 18 (Public Works) and applicable Uniform Standard Drawings govern the condition and maintenance of sidewalks in unincorporated areas. Sidewalks are located within the public right-of-way, but Nevada law and long-standing Clark County policy place the maintenance and repair responsibility on the adjacent property owner in most residential contexts. Property owners are responsible for keeping their sidewalks free of trip hazards, cracks over one-half inch, heaved slabs, and obstructions. Repairs must be performed to Clark County Public Works Uniform Standard Drawings, typically requiring four-inch thick concrete, correct cross-slope for ADA, and matching finish. Any sidewalk work within the public right-of-way requires a right-of-way encroachment or construction permit issued by Clark County Public Works. Permits ensure the work uses a licensed Nevada contractor and meets public safety and ADA requirements. Damage caused by county-maintained street trees or utility work may shift responsibility to the responsible public agency or utility — these cases are reviewed individually. If a property owner is cited for a failing sidewalk and fails to repair it, the county may perform the work and assess costs as a lien on the property. Sidewalk damage caused by private vehicles or construction is the responsibility of the property owner or contractor.
