North Las Vegas Municipal Code generally places the duty to maintain and repair sidewalks abutting a property on the adjacent property owner under common Nevada municipal practice and NLVMC public works provisions. The city may notify owners of hazardous sidewalk conditions, including raised panels over 0.5 inch (a tripping hazard), large cracks, missing sections, or vegetation overgrowth blocking the walkway. If the owner does not repair within the prescribed period, the city may perform the repair and lien the property for the cost. Sidewalk damage caused by city-owned street trees, city utility work, or city-installed drainage facilities is generally repaired by the city at city expense. New sidewalks and replacements must meet ADA standards including a maximum 2 percent cross slope, a 5 percent maximum running slope without handrails, detectable warning surfaces at curb ramps, and minimum 4 foot width. Permits for sidewalk work in the public right-of-way are issued by Public Works.
