North Las Vegas Municipal Code Title 12 (Streets, Sidewalks, and Public Places) prohibits obstructing public sidewalks and pedestrian rights-of-way. Common violations include parking vehicles across sidewalks at driveways, leaving trash and recycling bins on sidewalks beyond the collection day window, allowing tree branches and shrubbery to overhang below 7 feet vertical clearance, blocking access with construction materials or merchandise without an encroachment permit, and storing trailers or boats partially on the walkway. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires a continuous 36 inch (preferably 4 foot) accessible path of travel free of obstructions. Property owners must trim vegetation extending into the right-of-way and prevent landscape rock and debris from spilling onto walkways. Construction sites must maintain pedestrian access through covered walkways or properly signed detours; closing a sidewalk requires a Public Works encroachment permit. Snow removal is rarely an issue in the Las Vegas Valley but standing water from sprinkler overspray and ice from misadjusted irrigation can create slip hazards subject to nuisance abatement.
