Abandoned vehicles in North Las Vegas may be tagged and removed after 72 hours under NLVMC Chapter 10.61, backed by NRS Chapter 487 state abandoned vehicle law.
NLVMC Chapter 10.61 (Abandoned Vehicles) authorizes the Chief of Police, any police officer, code enforcement officer, or other legally designated officer to attach a notice to any vehicle reasonably believed to be abandoned. If the vehicle is not removed or brought into compliance within 72 hours of the notice, the City Manager or designee may remove or have the vehicle towed. No storage of unregistered, abandoned, junked, or dismantled vehicles is permitted anywhere in the city. NRS Chapter 487 provides the state framework for abandoned vehicle titling, salvage certificates, and lien sales. Towed vehicles are stored at contracted tow yards and owners must pay towing, storage, and administrative fees before release. Vehicles unclaimed after statutory periods may be sold at public auction or processed as salvage. Property owners can be cited separately for permitting storage of abandoned vehicles on their property. Reports to North Las Vegas Code Enforcement or Police non-emergency line initiate the tagging process.
