Garage sale signs are treated as temporary signs and allowed on the property hosting the sale without permit. Signs in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, or affixed to trees are prohibited and subject to immediate removal by city staff.
LDR Section 4.6.7 allows temporary signs up to 6 square feet on the host property. Off-premise directional signs in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, traffic signs, or public trees are prohibited and removed without notice. Signs must not be placed in medians, on fire hydrants, or in sight triangles at intersections. Signs should be removed within 24 hours of sale conclusion. Staking signs in grass swales adjacent to public streets is also a violation of ROW rules. HOAs may have stricter visibility restrictions.
City staff routinely remove sign litter from rights-of-way, particularly after weekends. Repeat offenders may be fined. Signs left on ROW become property of the city.
