West Palm Beach, FL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 94-407(11) of the Zoning and Land Development Regulations covers temporary garage sale and yard sale signs citywide, allowing low freestanding signs with one or two faces and wall-mounted signs with one face. Permitted content is limited to the type of sale, the address, the dates and hours of the sale, directional information, and other related information, so signs cannot double as general advertising. Each face is capped at six square feet, and a homeowner may put up no more than one sign per lot, and no more than three signs total per sale, meaning a single seller cannot scatter unlimited directional placards around the neighborhood.

Placement is restricted to lots where the property owner has given permission, so posting a garage sale sign on a neighbor's yard or a vacant lot without consent is not allowed. Setbacks are 20 feet from any adjoining lot line but zero feet from the public right-of-way, plus the intersection visibility setback required by Sec. 94-305(e) near street corners and driveways. Maximum height is six feet whether the sign is a low freestanding placard or wall-mounted. The subsection does not list a permit requirement or an automatic removal deadline tied to the sale date, but it does make illegally placed temporary signs, including those posted without the landowner's consent or exceeding the size or count limits, removable by or at the expense of the owner or the individual responsible for putting it up.

Any resulting code violation not otherwise specifically penalized falls back on the General Code's Sec. 1-13 penalty of up to $500 and/or 60 days in jail.
