Holiday lights and decorations are exempt from Lynn Haven's sign rules under ULDC Sec. 5.03.02(B). Religious displays are also exempt under Sec. 5.03.02(C). String lights used on commercial parcels for non-traditional purposes are prohibited under Sec. 5.03.04(A)(8).
Sec. 5.03.02 of the ULDC exempts the following from sign regulation: legal notices, holiday lights and decorations, religious displays, signs not visible from any street or adjacent property, regulatory and traffic signs, public warning signs (e.g., 'no trespassing,' 'no swimming,' animal hazard warnings), and signs carried by a person. Decorative flags and bunting can be displayed for celebrations, conventions, or commemorations of community significance for a time period authorized by the City Manager (Sec. 5.03.03 / Table 5.03.03). Non-residential parcels are limited to 3 flags or insignias on any single parcel (Sec. 5.03.06(A)(3)); a flag's vertical span cannot exceed 20% of the flagpole height. Commercial use of strings of light bulbs outside traditional holidays is prohibited under Sec. 5.03.04(A)(8).
Holiday lights inside the residential exemption are not enforceable. Commercial string-light violations are subject to immediate removal and Sec. 1-7 fines up to $500.
