As a result, coastal communities such as St. Petersburg, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, and Miami Beach maintain enforceable restrictions on single-use plastic straws, while state law imposes no straw requirement of its own.
Penalties come only from local ordinances where adopted, typically civil code-enforcement fines that escalate for repeat business violations; no state penalty applies.
