Spokane homeowners can opt out of door-to-door solicitation by posting a No Soliciting or No Trespassing sign. Commercial solicitors who ignore such signs commit misdemeanor trespass under SMC 10.10.030.
Spokane does not maintain a centralized no-knock registry, but individual property owners may post signs prohibiting solicitation. Under SMC 10.10.030 and RCW 9A.52.080, remaining on premises after being asked to leave, or entering after notice (including posted signs), constitutes criminal trespass in the second degree. A No Soliciting sign legally signals such notice to commercial solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers. Licensed city peddlers are required by SMC 8.02 to honor posted signs as a condition of their license. Signs do not override mail delivery, utility readers, government officials performing official duties, or delivery drivers dropping packages. Constitutionally protected religious or political canvassers, while generally exempt from license requirements, are also subject to trespass law once they have been notified of unwelcome presence. Violators can be reported to Spokane Police at the non-emergency line.
Criminal trespass 2nd degree: misdemeanor, up to $1,000 and 90 days jail. Licensed solicitor: possible license revocation.
