Oklahoma City Municipal Code Β§32-1 requires commercial door-to-door solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers to obtain a Solicitor's Permit from the City Clerk. Application requires: valid government ID, disclosure of criminal history, background check through OKCPD ($25 fee), proof of business registration, description of goods/services, and list of all solicitors. Permits are valid 30 to 90 days depending on type and cost $50 to $200. Each solicitor carries a photo ID badge visible while canvassing. Solicitation hours restricted to 9 AM to 9 PM or sunset, whichever is earlier. Religious, political, and charitable canvassing are exempt under First Amendment protections (Village of Schaumburg v. Citizens for a Better Environment, 444 U.S. 620). Edmond Code Β§22-11, Midwest City, and Del City have similar permit systems. Unincorporated Oklahoma County has no solicitor permit system β Sheriff enforces general trespass law (21 O.S. Β§1835).
