Nevada Pool Barrier and Fencing Code Requirements

NRS 444.065 establishes statewide minimum standards for residential swimming pool barriers, adopted via the International Building Code and ISPSC. Pools over 24 inches deep require a barrier at least 60 inches tall (5 feet) with no openings allowing passage of a 4-inch sphere. Gates must open outward, self-close, self-latch, with latches at least 54 inches above ground. Where a dwelling wall serves as part of the barrier, doors leading to the pool must have alarms or self-latching mechanisms above 54 inches. The standards aim to prevent child drowning, the leading cause of accidental death for ages 1-4 in Nevada. Local jurisdictions enforce through building permits.
