Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 461A (Pool Safety) is one of the strictest state pool barrier laws in the United States and applies to all residential swimming pools and spas deeper than 24 inches. The barrier must be at least 5 feet tall measured from the outside, have no openings larger than 4 inches, no horizontal footholds on the exterior, and no gaps greater than 2 inches between the bottom of the barrier and the ground. Gates must open outward away from the pool, be self-closing and self-latching, with the latch at least 54 inches above the ground. If the dwelling itself forms part of the barrier, all doors opening directly to the pool area must have an audible alarm or self-closing and self-latching device. Window screens are not acceptable barriers. Anti-entrapment drain covers meeting the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act are required.
