North Las Vegas residential pools need a barrier at least 48 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates. Openings and climbable features are limited under the 2024 ISPSC and IRC Appendix G.
North Las Vegas has adopted the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (Southern Nevada Amendments) and the International Residential Code Appendix G barrier rules. Residential pools must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches tall measured from the outside (some locations require 60 inches). Gaps between vertical fence members may not exceed 4 inches, openings between the ground and the bottom of the fence may not exceed 2 inches, and the outer surface must be free of handholds or footholds that a child could climb. Gates must swing outward from the pool, be self-closing, and self-latching, with latch hardware mounted at least 54 inches above the ground. Where a dwelling wall serves as part of the barrier, doors leading to the pool area must have an approved alarm or a self-closing, self-latching safety device. Above-ground pools may use a removable or lockable ladder as part of compliance. These standards implement Nevada Administrative Code 444 residential pool safety concepts and are enforced by Building and Safety and Code Compliance.
Missing or defective barrier: citation, required correction, and potential pool closure. Gate or alarm failure: enforcement order under Building and Safety and civil penalties for repeat issues.
