New Jersey Mobile Retail Food Establishment Code

Under N.J.S.A. 24:15-1 et seq. and the Retail Food Establishment Code at N.J.A.C. 8:24, every mobile food vehicle must operate under a license from a local board of health applying uniform statewide health and sanitation standards. Mobile units must have approved commissaries, food temperature controls, handwashing facilities, and food-protection manager certification. While municipalities choose where vending may occur, food safety rules and license categories follow the statewide Chapter 24 code without local variation.

Operating without a Chapter 24 license or violating sanitation standards can result in fines, immediate closure orders, and seizure of unsafe food.
