LA County's Sidewalk Vending Ordinance designates permitted vending areas and restricted zones in unincorporated communities. Vendors must maintain distances from storefronts, intersections, fire hydrants, and transit stops.
The Sidewalk Vending Ordinance establishes clear spatial requirements for vendors in unincorporated LA County. Vendors must maintain minimum distances from building entrances, crosswalks, fire hydrants, bus stops, and transit stations. Stationary vendors may only operate in approved locations while roaming vendors must keep moving unless making a sale. A clear pedestrian pathway of at least 4 feet must be maintained on all sidewalks per ADA requirements. Vending is prohibited in certain locations including public parks without a separate park permit, near schools during school hours, and within designated exclusion zones. Operating hours are generally limited to the same periods as nearby businesses. The DEO maintains maps of approved vending areas for unincorporated communities.
Vending in restricted zones carries fines starting at $100 for a second offense and escalating to $500 for fourth and subsequent violations within 12 months. Equipment blocking ADA paths may be immediately removed.
