Above-ground pools in unincorporated Palm Beach County require a building permit if water depth exceeds 24 inches per FL Building Code. Barrier requirements under FL Β§515.27 apply identically to above-ground pools β including ladders that are removable or have lockable barriers.
PBC PZB requires permits for above-ground pools deeper than 24 inches at the deepest point. Pool walls of at least 48 inches may serve as the barrier provided ladders are removable, secured upright when not in use, or surrounded by a self-closing/self-latching gate. Decks and platforms attached to above-ground pools require additional permits and structural review. Setbacks: typically 7.5 feet from rear/side lines, 25 feet from septic drainfields. Inflatable pools under 24 inches deep are exempt from permit but parents are still liable under FL Β§515 if drowning occurs.
No permit when required: 4x permit fee. Removable ladder left in place when pool unattended: cited as barrier violation under FL Β§515.29.
