NYS Residential Code (19 NYCRR Part 1220) §AG105 and §680 of the National Electrical Code (adopted in NY) govern hot tub and spa installations. A licensed electrician must install a dedicated 240V GFCI-protected circuit with a disconnect within sight of the spa, requiring an electrical permit from the local building department. Hot tubs must meet accessory structure setbacks (typically 5 feet from property lines, varying by town — Albany Code §375, Colonie Code §190, Bethlehem Code §128).
