Boise pools must have anti-entrapment drain covers meeting VGB standards, GFCI-protected electrical circuits, and audible door alarms on any house door opening directly to the pool area unless a compliant power safety cover is installed.
In addition to the physical barrier, Idaho Building Code and federal Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool and Spa Safety Act impose anti-entrapment requirements: all suction outlets must have VGB-compliant anti-entrapment covers, and single-main-drain pools require a secondary means (SVRS, vent, disable, atmospheric vacuum, gravity drainage, or multiple drains). All pool electrical circuits (pumps, lights, receptacles within 20 feet) must be GFCI-protected. Any wall of the dwelling that serves as part of the pool enclosure must have doors equipped with an alarm audible throughout the house, or the pool must have a power-operated safety cover meeting ASTM F1346. No diving boards without adequate depth (typically 8 feet). Private pools are not required to have lifeguards or posted depth markings, but public and shared-use pools follow IDAPA 24.39.70.
