Houston pools must display a No Swimming When Unattended sign. Pool covers must support the weight of a child or adult. Doors providing pool access require alarms and keyless deadbolts at 36+ inches.
Under Chapter 43 and the adopted 2018 ISPSC with Houston Amendments, pools must display a clearly visible sign reading No Swimming When Unattended. Pool and spa covers must be strong enough to support the weight of a child or adult who may walk or fall onto them. When a home wall serves as part of the pool barrier, all doors and windows providing pool access must be equipped with alarms that sound when opened. Exterior doors opening to the pool area require a keyless deadbolt at least 36 inches above the floor. French doors must include independent locks on each door. Sliding glass doors require a pin-style or bar lock. Windows providing pool access should be permanently sealed or barred. The pool-side barrier must be at least 20 inches from the water's edge.
Missing safety signage: correction order. Non-compliant door or window access: required retrofit. Pool cover failure: replacement order.
