Tennessee's Katie Beth's Law requires a pool alarm on any pool installed after January 1, 2011. Public pools must also post depth markers and "NO DIVING" signs where diving is unsafe under Department of Health rules.
Under Tennessee's Katie Beth's Law (Tenn. Code Ann. § 68-14-801 et seq.), any swimming pool installed after January 1, 2011 must have a pool alarm that sounds at 50 decibels when a person or object of 15 pounds or more enters the water. For public/community pools, the Tennessee Department of Health requires depth markers on both sides and each end, "WARNING NO LIFEGUARD" signs at unguarded pools, and four-inch "NO DIVING" lettering where diving standards aren't met.
Failure to install a required pool alarm violates state law. Public pools missing depth markers, no-diving, or no-lifeguard signage can fail inspection and be ordered closed.
