Troy Code requires containers at curb, not in street; placed no earlier than 6 PM prior evening. Containers must be removed within 24 hours of pickup. Towns follow similar rules.
Troy Code Chapter 231 (Solid Waste) requires residents to place trash and recycling containers at the curb (not blocking the sidewalk or street) no earlier than 6 PM the evening before scheduled collection, and to retrieve empty containers within 24 hours after pickup. Containers must have tight-fitting lids and be rodent-resistant. County towns (East Greenbush, North Greenbush, Brunswick, Schodack, Pittstown, Sand Lake, Poestenkill) contract with private haulers (County Waste, Twin Bridges, Waste Connections) and apply similar curb-time windows typically 5 PM-8 AM. Containers left on parkway strip more than 24 hours after pickup can be tagged as nuisance. Bulk pickup requires advance call to hauler in most towns.
Troy nuisance container: warning then $25-$100 per Ch. 231. Repeat or illegal dumping: $250-$1,500 per offense. Blocking sidewalk: ADA violation plus municipal ticket.
