Trash, recycling, and compost bins must be stored on private property and placed at the curb or designated collection point only on scheduled collection days. Bins left on sidewalks outside collection times are a Public Works Code violation.
Bins should be placed at the curb by 6 AM on collection day with lids closed and facing the street. Bins must not block sidewalks, driveways, fire hydrants, or bike lanes. After collection, bins must be retrieved by 9 PM and returned to private property. Multi-unit buildings may use designated bin enclosures. Property owners in some areas may receive scheduled collection from rear-of-building or side-yard service. Oversized or extra bins require coordination with Recology.
Bins left on sidewalks outside collection times may result in notices from DPW. Repeat violations can lead to fines. Blocked sidewalks are an ADA compliance issue.
