Bulk pickup in Bristol County cities requires advance scheduling. Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton accept furniture and appliances with appointments. Mattresses must be separated per MassDEP waste ban.
Fall River schedules bulk pickup by appointment through DPW (up to a set quantity per household per year). New Bedford offers scheduled bulk collection through ABC Disposal with online request. Taunton provides monthly bulk days by ward. Eligible items include furniture, mattresses, and large appliances with refrigerants professionally removed (certification sticker required). Mattresses and box springs are banned from trash statewide under MassDEP 310 CMR 19.017 effective November 2022 and must be separated for recycling. Electronics (TVs, computers, monitors) are banned from trash and go to municipal drop-off or Best Buy/Staples take-back. Paint, batteries, and household hazardous waste go to scheduled HHW collection events. Construction debris is not eligible.
Illegal dumping under MGL c. 270 Β§16: $5,500 first offense, up to $15,000 repeat, plus cleanup costs. Early curb placement: $50 to $200 local citation. Appliance refrigerant violations: federal EPA penalties.
