Queens County, NY Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

DSNY bulk collection in Queens is integrated into the regular collection schedule. Residents can place most large items at the curb on their regular trash-collection day within the normal set-out window (after 6 p.m. night before, or 4 a.m. day of). Items accepted on the regular trash day include furniture, rugs, cabinets, small amounts of construction debris (bundled and not too heavy), mattresses and box springs that are sealed in a DSNY-approved plastic mattress bag (available at most Queens big-box stores), and most plastic children's toys. Mattress bagging became mandatory to reduce bedbug spread citywide. Items that require a scheduled appliance pickup include: refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners containing refrigerant (Freon). Schedule through NYC 311 online or by phone at least 3 business days in advance; DSNY removes the refrigerant before crushing the appliance. Electronic waste (televisions, computers, monitors, printers, most devices) is banned from regular trash under NY State Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act. E-waste is accepted at Queens SAFE Disposal Events (rotating quarterly), the Special Waste drop-off site at 120-15 31st Avenue (College Point), retailer take-back (Best Buy, Staples), or by using the e-waste hauler program for apartment buildings. Yard waste follows the organics program. Hazardous household waste (paints, solvents, pesticides) is only accepted at SAFE Disposal Events.
