Recology Yuba-Sutter is the exclusive franchised hauler for unincorporated Yuba County. Single-family homes must either subscribe to curbside garbage, recycling, and organics service or self-haul to an approved facility (with limited low-population census-tract waivers).
Residential collection in unincorporated Yuba County is provided by Recology Yuba-Sutter under exclusive franchise agreements covering Yuba and Sutter Counties and the cities of Live Oak, Marysville, Wheatland, and Yuba City. Service includes garbage plus recycling and organics collection. Under the Regional Waste Management Authority (RWMA) Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction Ordinance (No. 22-1), single-family residences must either subscribe to and participate in the curbside recycling and organics collection service OR self-haul their recyclables and organic waste to a recycling or composting facility. The basic service rate includes a standard 32-gallon cart, with 64- or 96-gallon upgrades available for roughly $0.50/month. All three carts are collected on the same regular weekly trash day. The principal exception applies to single-family residences in designated Low-Population Census Tract Areas with approved CalRecycle waivers; in unincorporated Yuba County the listed waivered census tracts are 409.01, 409.02, 410.01, 410.02, 411.01, and 411.02, where residents may instead reduce waste, grasscycle, home-compost, or use local recycling centers and self-haul. For occasional excess garbage, residents can arrange an extra collection (additional 32-gallon set-outs run roughly $4.75 each with advance notice). Service questions go to Recology Yuba-Sutter at (530) 743-6933.
Under the RWMA ordinance, single-family generators that neither subscribe to collection nor properly self-haul recyclables and organics are out of compliance with SB 1383 source-separation requirements. Recology also assesses contamination service charges of about $8.00 per contaminated recycling cart and about $16.00 per contaminated organics or refuse cart. SB 1383 also authorizes jurisdictions to issue notices of violation and fines for non-compliant generators (enforcement began January 1, 2024).
