The Town of Cornelius contracts with Waste Pro for once-per-week automated curbside garbage collection and biweekly recycling on a RED/BLUE alternating schedule. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on collection day (or the night before), within 4 feet of the road, 3 feet from any obstacle, with handles facing the home. Cornelius does not provide bulk-item pickup.
The Town of Cornelius Solid Waste Services Division coordinates curbside collection. Garbage is collected once per week by Waste Pro using a fully-automated truck. Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as garbage, alternating between a RED week and BLUE week schedule. Cart placement rules: container within 4 feet of the road, 3 feet of clearance from other objects, away from trees, overhanging limbs, and mailboxes; handles toward the home; lid hinge facing away from the road; container facing the road. All trash must be bagged (loose trash will scatter and may not be collected). Yard waste is not accepted in garbage containers and follows a separate yard-waste schedule. Holiday schedule: Memorial Day delays collections by one day; Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's weeks limit collection to 6 thirty-gallon bags of trash and 6 thirty-gallon clear bags of recyclables per household. Bulk-item pickup is not provided by the Town β residents must arrange private pickup. Public Works: 704-892-6031.
Non-compliant carts (overfilled, lid not closing, loose unbagged trash, contaminated recycling) will not be picked up and remain at the curb until the next scheduled collection. Persistent violations of Town Code Chapter 50 (Solid Waste) can result in fines up to $500 per occurrence and service suspension.
