Unincorporated Siskiyou County has no universal curbside garbage pickup. Residents self-haul to County and contractor-run transfer stations in Yreka (Oberlin Road), Mount Shasta (Black Butte), Tulelake, Happy Camp, and the Salmon River area. A minimum disposal fee of $7.00 applies, with senior fee-waiver days.
Siskiyou County operates a self-haul solid-waste system rather than countywide curbside collection. The Department of General Services and Environmental Health oversee a network of transfer stations where residents bring their own garbage and recyclables. Confirmed transfer stations and hours: Black Butte (3710 Springhill Road, Mount Shasta) — Mon–Wed, Fri, Sat 8:00am–4:00pm, closed Thurs and Sun; Oberlin Road (2420 Oberlin Road, Yreka) — Mon–Thurs and Sat 8:00am–4:00pm, closed Fri and Sun; Tulelake (County Road 95001) — Thurs–Sat 11:00am–4:00pm (operated by the City of Tulelake); Happy Camp (65600 Hwy 96) — summer (Apr 1–Sep 30) Wed–Sat 10:00am–5:00pm, winter (Oct 1–Mar 31) Thurs–Sat 10:00am–4:00pm; and a Salmon River area collection on Wednesdays only at rotating times (Scott Valley Disposal). All stations are closed on County-observed holidays. Disposal fees include a $7.00 minimum, $5.00 for a 1–33 gallon container, $6.00 for 45–55 gallon, $10.15/cubic yard loose, and $39.11/cubic yard compacted. Residents 55+ get the $7.00 minimum fee waived on designated weekly senior days at each station. Private subscription pickup is available in some areas through licensed haulers (e.g., Siskiyou County Disposal Company / Scott Valley Disposal), but it is not a countywide mandate. Stations were recently noted as not accepting rimmed tires.
Improper disposal (illegal dumping) is enforced as a nuisance/health violation. Fees are due at the transfer station; there is no countywide curbside subscription mandate to violate.
