Since October 1, 2025, unincorporated Indian River County runs Universal Curbside Collection: Waste Management picks up carted trash, recycling, and yard waste once a week, paid through a mandatory assessment on your property-tax bill. Vero Beach and Sebastian run their own.
Under a 10-year agreement with the Solid Waste Disposal District, Waste Management of Florida is the sole hauler for unincorporated Indian River County and Fellsmere. As of October 1, 2025, every residential unit gets Universal Curbside Collection - once-a-week pickup of a 95-gallon gray trash cart, a 65-gallon recycling cart, a 95-gallon yard-waste cart, and up to four bulk items. Set carts curbside by 6 a.m. on your collection day, or the night before. Collection days were reassigned with the 2025 rollout, so confirm your day with WM. The cities of Vero Beach and Sebastian run separate municipal collection.
Overfilled carts or loose waste beside the cart get skipped. Repeated set-out and container problems fall to county code enforcement, which issues notices and fines for conditions left uncorrected.
