Live Oak offers voluntary curbside single-stream recycling to residential customers. Accepted materials include paper, cardboard, metal cans, and plastics marked 1 and 2.
Live Oak residents are provided a single-stream recycling cart that is collected on a regular schedule (typically weekly or every other week) by the contracted franchise hauler. Acceptable recyclables include clean paper and cardboard (flattened), aluminum and steel food cans, glass bottles and jars where accepted, and rigid plastic containers marked with resin codes 1 (PET) and 2 (HDPE). Items should be emptied and rinsed; greasy pizza boxes, food-soiled paper, plastic bags, styrofoam, garden hoses, electronics, and batteries are not accepted in the curbside cart. Contaminated loads may be rejected and sent to landfill. The City of Live Oak does not impose fines for failing to recycle, but illegal disposal of hazardous waste in recycling carts may trigger code enforcement. Residents should avoid bagging recyclables - loose items in the cart process correctly at the materials recovery facility. Drop-off options for glass, electronics, and household hazardous waste are available through Bexar County regional programs. Check with the hauler for the current accepted list, as markets for recyclables change.
