Live Oak treats vehicles unmoved for 48 hours on public streets, or junked vehicles visible from a public place, as abandoned under Texas Transportation Code Chapter 683 and may tow them.
Live Oak enforces abandoned-vehicle rules under both city ordinance and Texas Transportation Code Chapter 683 (abandoned vehicles) and Chapter 683.071 et seq. (junked vehicles). A vehicle is considered abandoned if left unattended on a public street for more than 48 hours, or inoperable on private property for more than 30 days visible from a public place or neighboring property. Junked vehicles are defined as those wrecked, dismantled, discarded, or inoperable and not displaying current registration and inspection. Live Oak Code Enforcement or Police post a notice giving the owner 10 days to abate; if unresolved, the vehicle can be towed at the owners expense and auctioned. Property owners may not use tarps to shield junked vehicles from view as that does not cure the violation.
