Private well owners with quality concerns can request testing through SCDHS, particularly for nitrates, 1,4-dioxane, and PFAS, which have prompted aggressive Suffolk treatment investments. Leak-detection rebates are available through SCWA for fixture upgrades.
Failure to report a known main-side leak can shift repair liability to the property owner; failure to address a private-side leak generates SCWA service penalties and possible shutoff for waste of water under tariff rules.
