Anaheim, CA Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Anaheim Municipal Code Sec. 24 which adopts the Orange County animal control ordinance. 5-or-greater result up to a full animal, and flatly bars roosters and peacocks from residential zones unless the underlying zone specifically allows them. 020: every equine, bovine, sheep, swine, goat or bird must be tethered, coop, corral or otherwise confined to the Planning Department's satisfaction, and none may be kept within 50 feet of any inhabited structure other than the owner's, or within 20 feet of any property line, unless the animal is kept inside the dwelling.

Larger livestock face acreage minimums on top of the spacing rule. 030 bars keeping any horse on a parcel under one acre (43,560 square feet) and caps horses at one adult plus its under-8-month offspring per quarter-acre. 080, which limits a household to one pig, bars breeding, requires spay/neuter by two months and vaccination records, and sets a 200-pound, 20-inch, 40-inch size cap), and caps those animals at one per half-acre. 070 require approval from Animal Care Services of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

090 allows the RH-1 and RH-2 zones to exceed these caps for up to eight months for a bona fide 4-H or FFA animal husbandry project approved by the Planning Department. 110 makes Sec. 24.
