Venice Code Ch. 10, Sec. 10-6 requires dogs to remain on the owner's property either fenced or leashed. When off-property, dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet under the control of a person; tethering to stationary objects is prohibited.
Sec. 10-6 is the controlling animal-restraint ordinance in Venice. The leash maximum of six feet applies when a dog is in any public place, including sidewalks, parks, and beaches. The City limits dogs in parks to specific designated locations: dogs are allowed on-leash within the walking trails of Pinebrook Park, the parking areas and walking paths of Maxine Barritt Park, and the parking area of Humphris Park. Dogs are prohibited on Venice's Gulf-front beaches under Ch. 46. Any animal found in violation may be impounded and held under the Sarasota County animal-services contract.
Each violation is a Code offense under Sec. 1-14 with fines up to $500. Repeat off-leash citations can lead to county dangerous-dog hearings under Fla. Stat. 767. Impound and reclaim fees apply at Sarasota County Animal Services.
