Doylestown Borough Chapter 2 (Animals) defines a 'household pet' as any dog, cat, or other small animal normally and ordinarily kept in or permitted to be at large in the dwelling of its owner. 'Small animals' include wild or domestic animals such as rabbits, hares, guinea pigs, swine, rats, mice, chinchillas, and domestic fowl such as parrots, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea hens, and pigeons (excepting homing pigeons). Animals not fitting these definitions may face zoning restrictions or require state permits. The PA Game Commission (34 Pa.C.S. Chapter 29) regulates possession of exotic wildlife, and the PA Fish & Boat Commission regulates certain reptiles and amphibians. Federal USDA permits may be required for certain exotic species.
