GA Code Β§27-5-4 prohibits many Class 1 wild animals as pets statewide. Cobb County does not permit big cats, wolves, bears, venomous reptiles, or similar animals as pets. Standard permits required for some Class 2 animals.
Georgia state law (GA Code Β§27-5-4) makes it unlawful to possess many wild animals without a permit from the Georgia DNR. Class 1 animals (including big cats, bears, wolves, alligators, and venomous reptiles) cannot be kept as pets. Class 2 animals may require a permit. Cobb County and Marietta do not have additional local exotic pet ordinances beyond state law, but all wildlife possession must comply with GA DNR regulations. Contact Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division for permit requirements for non-traditional animals.
Confiscation of prohibited animals. Fines $500 to $5,000. Criminal charges possible for dangerous species. Owner liable for damages from escaped animals.
