Cobb County Code Chapter 10 defines 'exotic animal' as any animal not indigenous to the State of Georgia. Georgia state law (GA Code Β§27-5-4) prohibits possession of many wild animals without a GA DNR permit. Class 1 animals (big cats, bears, wolves, alligators, venomous reptiles) cannot be kept as pets. Cobb County Animal Services enforces both state law and county regulations regarding exotic animals. Owners of non-traditional animals should contact Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division for permit requirements.
Confiscation of prohibited animals. Fines $500 to $5,000. Criminal charges possible for dangerous species. Owner liable for damages from escaped animals.
