In unincorporated Rutherford County livestock is common and largely governed by zoning, but the PAWS Rules make it unlawful to let livestock run at large on streets or on another's land. Impounded large animals can be redeemed, sold, or euthanized.
The PAWS Rules define 'livestock' as equine, bovine, and swine classes plus goats, sheep, mules, horses, hogs, and cattle. Article XXII lets the shelter impound stray large animals, posting notice at the courthouse; if unredeemed within thirty business days the animal may be adopted, euthanized, or sold at auction.
