Section 32-1301(A) sorts its prohibitions into separate groups, and the difference between them decides whether a quick stop is legal in Murfreesboro. Under (A)(1), no person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle on a sidewalk, within an intersection, or on a crosswalk. Because the word stop is included, even a brief halt in those places is prohibited. The section also covers bridges, tunnels and railroad tracks, along with any place where signs or curb markings prohibit parking.

Under (A)(2), the verbs are only stand or park, and the text adds an exception: a driver may act momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger or passengers. The subsection applies whether the vehicle is occupied or not, so staying behind the wheel does not make a vehicle legal in these spots unless a passenger is getting in or out.

The (A)(2) distances are specific. A vehicle may not stand or park in front of or within 5 ft. of a public or private driveway. The text says public or private, so a residential driveway counts as much as a commercial entrance. A vehicle may not stand or park within 15 ft. of a fire hydrant or mailbox, and it may not stand or park within 20 ft. of a crosswalk at an intersection. Murfreesboro also bars standing within 30 ft. of an approaching stop sign or signal.
