Murfreesboro, TN Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The governing schedule is a one-page City of Murfreesboro Solid Waste document headed Residential ASL Garbage Collection, Holiday Schedule - 2026. It covers residential garbage collection. It names no service district or county area, and it prints nothing about recycling, yard waste, brush, leaves, bulk pickup or commercial collection on holidays. The letters ASL are never spelled out.

Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, and its row reads "Thursday service slides to Friday." The document prints no separate row for Friday, November 27. Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, moves two days of service: Wednesday service slides to Thursday and Thursday service slides to Friday. Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, and Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, both read "No changes in schedule." So does New Year's Day, Friday, January 1, 2027. The first row of the same document is an earlier New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, where Thursday service slides to Friday. That row is not the 2027 rule.

Monday holidays get a Holiday Slide. For Martin Luther King Jr Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day the document prints Monday service sliding to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday and Thursday to Friday. Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, and Independence Day, observed July 3, read "No changes in schedule." The page prints no standing make-up sentence and no Monday holiday for 2027, so each date follows only its own row.

Chapter 14 of the City Code does not list collection holidays. Section 14-5(B) gives the Solid Waste Director or authorized representative authority to make and modify regulations concerning the days of collection. Section 14-11 reserves the City's right "to establish collection schedules and requirements." Under § 14-8(A)(1), residences are collected once each week and apartment complexes of five or more units twice each week.

Section 14-6 adds Christmas-period rules. Refuse placed outside the cart or propped against it is not picked up "except during the Christmas period of December 26 through January 9" (§ 14-6(B)(4)). Christmas trees are picked up as yard waste only if ornaments, ornament hangars, tinsel lights and stands are removed and the tree was not flocked (§ 14-6(A)(5)(a)). Carts go out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day before, should be at the collection area by 6:00 a.m. on collection day, and must be removed by 6:00 p.m. that day (§ 14-6(E)).
