Prince George's County allows responsible feeding of free-roaming cats but restricts practices that attract nuisance wildlife. Food should not be left out more than an hour or overnight, to avoid drawing rodents, raccoons, and coyotes.
Under the county's community-cat rules (CB-46-2019), feeding, sheltering, or otherwise caring for free-roaming cats does not create a public nuisance unless it disturbs the peace, comfort, or health of any person residing in the county. Caretakers are expected to follow responsible feeding practices: feed at the same time each day and remove food after no more than one hour so it is not left out overnight or for extended times when it could attract rodents, raccoons, coyotes, and other unwanted wildlife. Feeding or keeping actual wildlife is separately barred under Sec. 3-176, which prohibits keeping native wild animals. Animal Services enforces nuisance conditions when feeding disturbs neighbors.
Feeding that creates a nuisance or attracts wildlife can trigger enforcement; abandoning food overnight is discouraged and may draw complaints.
