Jefferson County does not have a separate local wildlife feeding ordinance but nuisance provisions can be applied to feeding that attracts pests or creates public health hazards. Unsecured trash containers attracting wildlife may violate Birmingham Code §14-2-1 (sanitation). Bird feeders are generally unrestricted in Jefferson County as bears are rare in the Birmingham metro area. Feeding feral cats may be regulated through nuisance ordinances if colonies form.
