Cobb County Code Chapter 10 addresses wildlife feeding as a nuisance when it attracts animals that damage property or threaten public safety. Intentional feeding of coyotes is prohibited — urban coyote populations have increased in East Cobb (Johnson Ferry, Roswell Road corridors) and West Cobb subdivisions bordering Kennesaw Mountain. Deer feeding in residential areas creates vehicle collision hazards and is discouraged though enforcement focuses on baiting for hunting under Georgia DNR rules (O.C.G.A. §27-3-9 — baiting restrictions). Feeding raccoons, opossums, and feral cats attracts rabies-vector species and violates nuisance provisions. Bird feeders are generally allowed but may be required to be removed if they attract bears (occasional sightings in North Cobb) or create rodent problems. Unsecured trash left at curb attracts wildlife and may trigger code enforcement. Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division (1-800-241-4113) handles specific wildlife conflict complaints.
Warning for first offense. Nuisance feeding fines $100 to $500 under Cobb Code §10-6. Georgia DNR may issue separate citations for violations of state wildlife law. Repeated rabies-vector attraction may escalate to public health action.
