The grow area must not be visible from public view, must be secured against minors, and the dwelling must remain a residence (not converted to a commercial grow). Harvested cannabis above one ounce must remain at the residence. Violation of indoor cultivation rules is an infraction with a $100 fine first offense.
Exceeding six plants is a misdemeanor with fines up to $500 and possible jail; visible outdoor cultivation in unincorporated OC is a code-enforcement infraction subject to escalating administrative penalties.
