Laredo has a juvenile curfew ordinance restricting minors under 17 from public places between 11 PM and 6 AM on weeknights and midnight to 6 AM on weekends. Daytime school-hour curfew also applies. Parents and minors face fines up to $500.
The City of Laredo has long maintained a juvenile curfew ordinance under its municipal code. Minors under 17 years of age are prohibited from being in public places, streets, parks, or establishments during curfew hours: 11 PM to 6 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 12 midnight to 6 AM Friday and Saturday. A daytime curfew also applies during school hours (typically 9 AM to 2:30 PM) on school days for minors subject to compulsory attendance. Defenses include: accompaniment by parent or guardian, emergency errands, employment, exercise of First Amendment rights, and travel to or from school or religious activities. Under Texas law, juvenile curfew ordinances must be renewed every 3 years by City Council after a public hearing and review. Violations are Class C misdemeanors. Laredo Police enforce curfew actively during border and downtown patrols.
Class C misdemeanor punishable by fine up to $500. Parents who knowingly permit violations face the same penalty. Repeat violations may trigger juvenile court referral.
